Fossil Group and Intel Collaborate on Wearable Tech

Global accessories retailer Fossil Group is set to put its feet in the wearable technology pond in a big way with the company announcing an innovation partnership with Intel. The partnership will see Intel support fossil by taking advantage of emerging trends in the wearable technology market.

For Fossil, the move is about exploring wearable in a ‘fashionable way’. Speaking on the announcement, Kosta Kartsotis, Chief Executive Officer of Fossil Group, commented:

‘We are very excited about collaborating with Intel and working to develop the next innovation in the emerging wearable technology space. Combining our fashion lifestyle brands with Intel’s expertise in technology, hardware and innovation will position us to be a leader in this segment.’

At this point the partnership appears to be a deal in principle, with no product releases announcing the news. Along with the likes of Google, Apple, Ralph Lauren and Samsung, a bright future awaits for wearable technology with another global player like Fossil voicing its commitment to the burgeoning industry.

Perhaps even more interesting than the collaboration partnership is that Fossil will also be working closely with Intel Capital, an investment incubator of innovative start-ups. This deal will see Intel become a facilitator between Fossil and innovative wearable start-ups on Intel Capital’s books, Thalmic Labs and Basis. This point of connection between the tech innovators and the retailers could provide a blueprint for the future for a wearable technology retail ecosystem. OCM.
